“Bill” Farmer

Leonard “Bill” Farmer, 63 of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant fight with multiple myeloma. “Bill” was born February 23, 1949 at Overbrook, the son of Raymond Boyd, Sr. and Mona Agnes Winchell Farmer. Bill’s greatest attribute was his Pride and loving Devotion to his family, friends and the farm way of life. He attended Valley Falls schools and was self employed, owning and operating a trucking company for over 40 years, he retired in 2010. He was also a farmer and stockman in the Oskaloosa area for many years. He attended the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church and was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association. He was married to Nancy Joy Thomason on November 17, 1967 at Oskaloosa and she survives at the home. He is also survived by, one daughter, Amy (Michael) Thompson, Burlingame, two sons, Darrin (Jana) Farmer, Oskaloosa, Eric (Brandy) Farmer, Oskaloosa, three sisters, Reta Foley, Lecompton, Marcia Butell, Lawrence, Juanita Basinger, Lyndon, three brothers, Tom Farmer, Smyrna, TN., Ray Farmer, Oskaloosa, Gary Farmer, Oskaloosa, and five grandchildren, Lakin, Jacob, Bailee, Jaxon, and Bristol. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Lee Farmer, Raymond “JR” Farmer, Jr. and Terry Farmer. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home , 1220 Walnut St. (59 Hwy), Oskaloosa, where friends may call after 12:00 noon, Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice or to the oncology unit of Lawrence Memorial Hospital in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, 66066.
